Soulful Strategies:
Career & Presentation Skills for Creators
Playing the Game of Art
A Three-Month Online Course with 3 Personal Sessions
Play the Game Well: The Importance of Presentation
This three-month online course is geared toward creators of all types, with particular relevance for visual artists and writers. From the most seasoned creator to the part-timer and/or emerging talent, we can all benefit from regular rehabs of our promotional materials and online platforms. We continually need fresh strategies for attracting the right type of attention to our work. At the same time we need to balance promotional time with creative time and personal duties.
Not Just for "Professionals": Shapeshifters & Tricksters Welcome
I believe that some of the most meaningful artistic expression comes to us from non-professionals. If you work a day job, act as a caretaker for others, are retired or perhaps a full-time student, do not be intimidated by our culture's limited definition a "real artist." Use this training to increase the odds of getting your work noticed as you shift between the many roles that life has given to you. Long-time creators in many creative disciplines will use this course to rejuvenate existing promotional materials and techniques that may have become stale, or just too time-consuming. Emerging creators will design strategies and materials that will act as critical supports for launching a fulfilling creative practice. What Sets This Course Apart: A Sense of Soul, A Sense of Humor
What makes this course "soulful," and different from others is that it's grounded in an archetypal attitude. What's that, you ask? An archetypal attitude recognizes a multitude of forces that can either enhance or diminish our carefully-made plans. These autonomous forces are in constant flux, yet there are patterns that we can learn to identify. This course will also assist you in becoming better acquainted with the archetypal trickster within--the personification of every creator's strengths and weaknesses. The trickster reminds us that even while we're strategizing career moves and refining our presentation skills, we're also playing an eternal game. So play the game well--but with perspective, a sense of humor and a sense of soul. You may find that this training is a valuable compliment to the Archetypal Artist course, or to a personal Creative Mentoring session. What We'll Cover
"We are artists living in a market society, it is the reconciliation [between the market and our gifts] that we must seek." -Lewis HydePersonalized Attention to Your Goals
Each month, you will receive course materials via email consisting of video presentations, downloadable readings and recordings, links to articles, assignments and an action plan for that month. This is a self-directed course with the benefit of a private 60-minute call, Zoom session, or in-person meeting each month to ascertain your progress, answer questions, and/or develop strategies together. Please feel free to forward images and/or drafts to me prior to our sessions so that we may work effectively on specific projects and goals during your call. At the end of this three-month course, you will have reviewed, updated (and possibly created for the first time) your key promotional tools. You will also be equipped with a deeper level of self-confidence and discernment which will serve you well as you engage with the marketplace, cultural institutions, critics, editors and the public. You'll recognize the role of luck and chance in the lives of all artists, and you'll be ready to partner with these forces when openings appear. Start Dates & Fees
